Here are a few drugs I gave today as an #anesthesiologistassistant! The case was a ventriculoperitoneal shunt. For IV fluids, plasmalyte is the preferred crystalloid. We used standard induction drugs: propofol, fentanyl, lidocaine and rocuronium. For additional pain management, I gave IV Tylenol. Glycopyrrolate & norepinephrine was used to treat the patients BP & HR. Towards the end of the case, zofran was given as an anti-emetic and the patient was reversed with sugammadex. Succinylcholine vs. Rocuronium: Key Differences, Contraindications, and Myalgia Prevention According to the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), succinylcholine is contraindicated in patients at risk for hyperkalemia, malignant hyperthermia, or certain neuromuscular disorders. In contrast, rocuronium’s primary contraindication is hypersensitivity. Succinylcholine is associated with postoperative myalgia, especially in ambulatory patients. Evidence shows that pretreatment with nondepolarizin

Rocuronium is a workhorse in the OR—fast-onset paralysis that helps us secure the airway safely. It’s very safe and easily reversible. It doesn’t stop the heart because it only blocks nicotinic receptors at the neuromuscular junction, not the cardiac muscle, which uses a completely different electrical system. Paralysis ≠ anesthesia, and physiology matters. ##AnesthesiaLife##Pharmacology##ORLife##MedEd##DoctorTok | Zachary Meade

#BRIDION : Sugammadex Sugammadex (ORG 25969) is · a unique neuromuscular reversal drug; · a novel cyclodextrin, · the first in a new class of selective relaxant binding agents, which reverse neuromuscular blockade (NMB) with the aminosteroid non-depolarizing muscle relaxants rocuronium and vecuronium. Sugammadex can reverse moderate or deep NMB. The clinical use of sugammadex promises to eliminate many of the shortcomings in current anesthetic practice with regard to antagonism of rocuronium and

Replying to @88 Keys via virtual velocity If paralytics stop muscles… why doesn’t your heart stop too? 🫀💉 Here’s why it doesn’t work that way. Paralytic medications like rocuronium and succinylcholine temporarily stop your skeletal muscles from moving — that’s what helps us intubate or keep patients still during surgery. But your heart? Totally different system. It’s a specialized kind of muscle that runs on its own built-in electrical rhythm — no nerve signal needed. That’s why paralytics don

Uni Medical care on Instagram: "Endotracheal Intubation in Children Endotracheal intubation is a critical medical procedure necessary to maintain an open airway in children, especially in emergency situations or during surgical anesthesia. The intubation technique in children differs from that in adults due to anatomical differences, as the pediatric airway is smaller, narrower, and less rigid, making it more prone to collapse or swelling when irritated. Therefore, selecting the appropriate endo
