Walsh earlier this month was named the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and honored with the Honda Cup. She concluded her collegiate career at the University of Virginia with 25 NCAA titles (nine individual) and an unmatched 16-for-16 record in NCAA relay finals.
In her second final at the World Aquatics Championship in Singapore, 18-year-old Summer McIntosh delivered her second gold medal of the meet, this time in the women's 200m individual medley. McIntosh posted a time of 2:06.
The 21-year-old star had booked his place in the semifinals with a time of 52.80 seconds in his morning heat and then went quicker in the semis, touching in a time of 52.29.
Eleven current and former Virginia swimmers are competing July 27-August 3 in Singapore at the FINA World Aquatics Championships
Gretchen Walsh won her first individual long course world title by nearly breaking her own 100m butterfly world record. Walsh clocked 54.73 seconds at the World Swimming Championships, just off her own record of 54.60 from May 3. She owns the top eight times in history.
Four-time Olympic champion and Australian superstar Ariarne Titmus will not feature in Singapore, a carefully considered decision that was made long before her heroics in Paris last summer.
