The typhoon, forecast to head northwest toward Taiwan, lashed the northern Philippines while the country was still dealing with the devastation wrought last week by Typhoon Kalmaegi, which left at least 224 people dead.

Typhoon Fung-wong, with sustained winds of 185 km/h (115mph), hit the Philippines as a super typhoon and later weakened.
