MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Typhoon Fung-wong blew out of the northwestern Philippines on Monday after setting off floods and landslides, knocking out power to entire provinces, killing at least two people and displacing more than 1.4 million others. It was forecast to head northwest toward Taiwan.

"The ship's structure suggests that it was capable of long-distance voyages, likely used for maritime trade or naval operations," officials said.

A weakened Typhoon Fung-wong is now passing over the South China Sea, after leaving two people dead in the Philippines.

Typhoon Kalmaegi killed at least 188 people across the Philippines and caused untold damage to infrastructure and farmland across the archipelago. The storm then destroyed homes and uprooted trees after landing in central Vietnam late on Thursday.
