The Aurora Borealis was spotted in a large swath of states, including Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and Washington state. Northern lights were visible as far south as parts of Florida and Alabama, a relatively rare occurrence that highlights the severity of this week's storms.
A severe geomagnetic storm is likely this evening or overnight. Not all of the United States will have clear enough skies to see northern lights produced by this geomagnetic storm.

A geomagnetic storm made the aurora borealis visible across a swath of the United States again on Wednesday, illuminating the skies as far south as Arizona.
Sky watchers across New England and much of the United States were treated to a rare show of the northern lights Tuesday night with vaulting aurora illuminating skies from Boston to Boise.
