Cam Hutson remembered just hoping to make varsity during his freshman year at East Lansing High School. And once he did, his focus centered on helping the Trojans' boys basketball team end its long state title drought.

Second-year head coach Robyn Fralick is the first-ever Michigan State women’s basketball head coach to lead the Spartans into the NCAA Tournament in their first two seasons at the helm of the MSU program.

Michigan State, the No. 2 seed, and Michigan, the No. 5 seed, were both placed in the South region by the NCAA tournament selection committee.

EAST LANSING – Michigan State will open the NCAA Tournament not too far from home. The Spartans (27-6) landed a No. 2 seed in the South Region and will face No. 15 Bryant (23-11) in a first-round game on Friday at Rocket Arena in Cleveland.

Tre Holloman scored a career-high 20 points, Jase Richardson had 18 points and No. 8 Michigan State beat No. 17 Michigan 79-62.
