A New Jersey teacher is accused of sexually assaulting a young student and having a child him when he was just 13 and living in her home, according to court documents.

The alleged crime went unnoticed until December when the victim's father reportedly saw a photo of the now 5-year-old child, noticed a family resemblance and posted about it on Facebook. Police say the case was brought to light when the victim's father made a social media post saying Caron's 5-year-old child looked very similar to him and his son.

Laura Caron, a 5th-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School, allegedly had an "inappropriate sexual relationship" with the student when they lived together at Caron’s home in Cape May Court House, an unincorporated community, between 2016 and 2020, according to a press release from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.

A 34-year-old New Jersey teacher has been charged with sexually assaulting a student when the child resided in her home several years ago. Between 2016 and 2020, Laura R. Caron, of the Cape May Court House section of Middle Township, sexually assaulted a student born in 2005, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Laura Caron was 28 years old when she was impregnated by a 13-year-old former student, and the whole situation unraveled when the child's father started asking questions on Facebook, according to a criminal affidavit.
