The Democratic Progressive Party's Secretary-General Lin Yu-chang has resigned following the resounding failure of the mass recall campaign. Not one of the initial group of 24 Kuomintang lawmakers up for recall was successfully ousted.
It was a mad dash to the finish, with Taiwanese on both sides seeing the vote as a battle for the future of their country.
Around one-fifth of Taiwanese lawmakers, all from the main opposition party the Kuomintang (KMT), face a recall election on Saturday that could reshape the legislature and present an opportunity for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party to regain its majority.
