For a while, the Mets were operating as if Alonso wouldn't return, and the biggest signing they made in that period was 2024 trade acquisition Jesse Winker, who projects to start at designated hitter against right-handed pitchers. That leaves a former two-time All-Star on the wrong side of a platoon.

After signing a two-year deal on Wednesday, Alonso is back in the fold in Queens. He'll look to try to push the Mets to the World Series, and he'll look to further cement himself in the record books.
