The typhoon, forecast to head northwest toward Taiwan, lashed the northern Philippines while the country was still dealing with the devastation wrought last week by Typhoon Kalmaegi, which left at least 224 people dead.

Typhoon Fung-wong made landfall on the main island of Luzon, prompting the evacuation of more than one million people, just days after an earlier storm killed over 200.
