MINNEAPOLIS — After seven moderate Democrats and one Independent broke ranks with party leadership in the Senate, a deal to end the longest government shutdown in U.S. history appears on track to pass by the end of the week. But Congressional Democrats representing Minnesota are not on board.
But with a broken appropriations process, few additional local projects are likely to get funding – and another shutdown is looming.
The DFL is projected to keep control of the Minnesota Senate after two seats were up for election Tuesday. Democrats are expected to keep a 33-32 advantage in the state Senate, after the resignation of DFL Sen. Nicole Mitchell and the death of Republican Sen. Bruce Anderson left two spots open.
