US President Donald Trump on Thursday claimed that the BRICS nations have "broken up", days after he threatened them with 100 per cent tariffs if they tried to seek an alternative for the US dollar.

Should Trump implement his 100% tariff threats, there may be serious repercussions for the world economy. Such tariffs might cause major industry disruptions, price increases, and strained diplomatic ties as several BRICS countries sell commodities valued at billions of dollars to the United States.

Countries like Malaysia and Thailand have expressed interest in joining BRICS, seen as a counterweight to the West, in recent years.

Trump has remained in staunch opposition to BRICS states over their de-dollarisation attempts. He threatened to impose tariffs on BRICS countries even before assuming the Presidential Office in the US.

Former President Trump asserts BRICS is breaking apart and threatens a 150% tariff, accusing them of challenging the US dollar. BRICS includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa and has recently been expanding.
