TORONTO (AP) — The Liberal Party has won the federal election in Canada, culminating a process marked by U.S. President Donald Trump threats on a trade war and of making the country the 51st American state.

Mark Carney's Liberal Party has won the Canadian election. In his victory speech, Carney told supporters that "President Trump is trying to break" Canada so that "America can own" the country. In his concession speech, defeated Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre said "hard lessons" had been learned from the election.

Canada’s Liberal Party, led by Prime Minister Mark Carney, has won the country’s federal election, Canadian media projects, following a campaign overshadowed by
