While the mayoral race in New York City dominated national headlines, some local cities also selected their next mayors on Tuesday.

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Elaine Pelino, a former actress and model, is running for governor of Rhode Island next year as a Republican. Pelino, a Smithfield resident, told 12 News she launched her campaign in July and is running “as a common-sense candidate.”

Multiple cities in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts will head to the polls today including Providence, Central Falls, Fall River and Taunton.

Multiple cities in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts went to the polls on Tuesday for the 2025 Election. Providence Ward 2 voters decided the Democratic nominee for a city council seat left vacant after Helen Anthony stepped down in September to focus on her health.

Election Day has arrived for the four Democrats pursuing Providence’s Ward 2 City Council opening. The Nov. 4 primary will narrow the race down to one Democratic candidate and one Republican candidate who will compete in the general election on Dec. 2.
