Detroit — Ford Motor Co. used its kickoff Thursday evening of the Detroit Auto Show to express its commitment to the event that for decades has made Detroit a destination, unveiling two special-edition Mustangs.

Ford Motor Company rolled out a number of special edition vehicles ahead of the opening of the Detroit Auto Show. Plus, its CEO revealed a suprise call from Donald Trump.

If you park in the Downtown Detroit area, you can hop on the Detroit People Mover free of charge, which runs all around Downtown. The stop closest to Ford Field is on Broadway Street. The station is about a seven-minute walk from the stadium. Qline is a street car that runs up and down Woodward Avenue from New Center/Northend to Downtown Detroit.

Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn used its Detroit Auto Show preview for employees, dealers, and media to unveil a pair of high-powered Mustangs.

Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Farley said he’s optimistic the auto industry will find a way to navigate through U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s tariff threats to find a solution that avoids inflicting significant damage on the highly integrated North American industry.

Show organizers announced last year that the event was returning in January to Huntington Place after taking place in the fall in recent years. The show returned in September 2022 following a three-year hiatus. This year's show kicked off Friday with media day and the charity preview. The public show runs Saturday, Jan. 11 through Monday, Jan. 20.

Ford is offering the first special edition Mustang GTD to mark the achievements of American ingenuity in what it's calling the Spirit of America.

The Detroit Auto Show has a few things to check out, including a gallery full of luxury and exotic vehicles and four interactive tracks for attendees to check out some cars.
