When the Colorado Avalanche and Edmonton Oilers get together, there’s an overflow of offensive firepower available.

The Colorado Avalanche lost 3-1 to the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday at United Center. This was Chicago’s second win against Colorado this season, following a 5-2 victory in October.

Cale Makar was picked to win the Norris Trophy as the best defenseman in the NHL by an NHL.com panel prior to the season and at the quarter mark of the season. Halfway into the season, he's still the favorite.

Makar had a power-play assist, one shot on net, three blocks and one hit in Saturday's 2-1 shootout loss to Montreal.

DENVER (AP) — Devon Toews scored 4:23 into overtime after Artturi Lehkonen tied the game late in regulation, and the Colorado Avalanche began a five-game homestand with a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers on Tuesday night. It was the Avalanche's 14th comeback victory of the season.
