A high school senior was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, during an immigration hearing in Hartford this week, according to Meriden Public Schools. A Maloney High School twelfth grader was taken into custody just days before graduation during a hearing that wasn’t criminal in nature,

She was one of an estimated 20 people were rounded up during surprise check-ins at the ICE Intensive Supervision Appearance Program offices in Chicago.

Federal agents carried out large-scale ICE raids across Los Angeles, detaining dozens and sparking tense clashes with protesters in the city’s Fashion District. The LAPD did not take part, and many residents were alarmed to see heavily armed officials operating in a city known as a "sanctuary" for undocumented immigrants.
