The Seattle Mariners catcher, nicknamed the “Big Dumper,” beat out Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero in Monday night’s Home Run Derby.

The first thing you notice when a home run ball starts to fly in your direction is that all your preconceived notions of how you’d react in that moment are pretty much wrong.

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, who has family ties in Peoria, won the 2025 MLB All-Star Home Run Derby on Monday at Truist Park in Atlanta.

The fabled torpedo bats were again on center stage at Monday night’s Home Run Derby, as the Mariners' Cal Raleigh took home the title.

Raleigh will become the second-ever player to switch hit in the Derby ( Adley Rutschman in 2023, lost 2nd round), plus no catcher has ever won the derby. This is year 39 of the event, so odds are against Raleigh despite him being the favorite.

A switch-hitting catcher winning the Derby. A young slugger crushing a 513-foot home run (and many more towering blasts). A tiebreaker determined by less than an inch. The 2025 Home Run Derby had it all.

With the top four advancing from the first round, Raleigh tied Brent Rooker (17 home runs) for fourth. The tiebreaker was based on longest home run distance, meaning Raleigh (470.61 feet) advanced, while Rooker (470.53) was eliminated. To be clear: .08 feet is .96 inches. Raleigh advanced by less than one inch.
