One of the components of prostatic fluid is an enzyme that liquifies mucus. It’s called gamma-seminoprotein, but is more commonly known as prostate-specific antigen -- or PSA.

The prostate helps with male fertility by making fluid that supports sperm. Problems with the prostate, like inflammation or changes in size, can sometimes affect how sperm work.
