Consumer sentiment increased in June for the first time in six months, the latest sign that Americans’ views of the economy have improved as inflation has stayed tame and the Trump administration has reached a truce in its trade fight with China.
The economic vibes are improving, with consumers' inflation expectations falling last month for the first time in 2025. On Wednesday, CPI was also cool.
Consumer sentiment picked up in June, after recent dire readings, a new University of Michigan survey showed. A preliminary reading for June came in at 60.5. That was up from 52.2 in May, and higher than the 54.
Inflation expectations are elevated, but the sharp drop in May shows consumers, like investors, starting to some improvements in their outlooks.
