(WLOS) — It's beginning to look a lot like winter in high-elevation areas across the region. On top of it being a very chilly, breezy day, many parts of Western North Carolina experienced their first sight of snow of the season. Places like Madison County got the most accumulation, where snow was seen on benches and grassy areas.

Braden Atkinson threw three touchdown passes, CJ Miller ran for three scores, and Mercer defeated Western Carolina 49-47 on Saturday in a shootout to win the Southern Conference title. Mercer clinched the SoCon's automatic bid into the FCS playoffs.
At 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, the NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC released a winter weather advisory valid from 7 p.m. until Tuesday 7 a.m. The advisory is for Madison, Yancey, Mitchell, Haywood and Graham counties.
The tournament, which will be part of the PGA's FedExCup Fall, will be held Sept. 17-20, 2026 at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove, a course designed by Jack Nicklaus.
