Bu Tan, announced that it's laying off staff and tightening its return-to-office rule as the Bay Area giant tries to right its course.

Today is Intel’s Q1 2025 earnings call, and the first we’re truly hearing from new Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, who took over the company on March 18th. But he didn’t wait until the call to announce major changes at Intel, nor did he begin his reign by laying off 20 percent of the company’s employees, as Bloomberg reported he might.

Many large employers have begun enforcing return-to-office policies over the past two years. Nike began requiring employees in the office four days a week at the start of 2024. Amazon told employees they had to be back in the office five days a week at the start of this year.
