Liverpool is edging closer to sealing a transfer move for Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz with its latest bid worth a total of $153 million (£113 million).

Liverpool have made a second bid for Florian Wirtz, raising their offer to a club record £113m. Bayer Leverkusen are believed to want £150m for the Germany international, who would prefer a move to Anfield. Liverpool’s initial proposal came to £109m, including add-ons, but they have now submitted an improved offer with a greater guarantee of £100m.

Reports from Germany in midweek claimed that the deal is ‘99%’ complete, and the player seemed to hint at the likelihood of the move going through with his unspoken response to journalist Lewis Steele after his country’s defeat to Portugal in the UEFA Nations League on Wednesday night.
