The EFL Championship season concluded on May 24 with the playoff final at Wembley Stadium.Sheffield United and Sunderland faced off in England's capital for the right to earn promotion to the Premier League for 2025/26.

The Blades took the lead through Tyrese Campbell and had several chances to build on it as Chris Wilder's side were dominant. However, Sunderland struck twice late on as Eliezer Mayenda equalized with less than 15 minutes to go and then substitute Tom Watson curled home in stoppage time to send the Black Cats back to the Premier League as their fans were in dreamland.

Sunderland staged a remarkable comeback to beat Sheffield United 2-1 in the Championship playoff final with substitute Tom Watson sending them back to the Premier League by scoring the winner deep in stoppage time at Wembley on Saturday.
