The Denver Broncos are shaking up their running back depth chart, bringing in veteran J.K. Dobbins on a one-year deal. The full contract details are not yet known -- and the signing is not yet official -- but NFL Network (and other outlets) have reported the contract is worth "up to" $5.25 million. The key to that is "up to."
The Denver Post’s Parker Gabriel wrote on June 9 that there was “no signing imminent” for Dobbins. Broncos head coach Sean Payton praised Dobbins, but also piqued interest with other comments on what Gabriel termed the “fascinating subplot.”
“J.K. Dobbins had a pretty decent offer on the table to return to the Chargers and passed on it, at which point Los Angeles pivoted to Najee Harris. You’ve got to wonder if there are some regrets there, with the productive, if beat-up, Dobbins still looking for a job.”
The 25-year-old joined Denver's practice squad late in his rookie season in 2022 and scored a 24-yard touchdown catch on his first career touch in the NFL. He then impressed during training camp in 2023, but an injury derailed his chances of getting off the practice squad onto the active roster in his second season.
